"He has done nothing that he agreed to and nor is he paying [what he owes]," the head of Together for Catalonia (Junts) list in Barcelona for the 23rd July election, Miriam Nogueras, was direct this Friday morning. In an interview with SER Catalunya, the pro-independence politician argued that because of facts like this, her party is closing the door on providing Pedro Sánchez with the parliamentary support it may need to return to government after the general election. "We are now in the scenario where he cannot be invested as prime minister. That's very clear. He has lied to everyone", she said.

Regarding the alliances between Junts and the Republican Left (ERC), Nogueras asserted that the parties cannot continue "doing things as they have been". "What we need to do, if we have enough votes, is work together. And it has to start now. We have normalized too many things that are not normal," she stressed.

In an interview with ElNacional.cat on June 15th, Nogueras said: "We are not going to Madrid to invest any Spanish prime minister, that isn't our goal." She also warned that after 23rd July "nothing will be the same as before". The Junts candidate gave a negative assessment of this legislature now concluding: "the balance is not good, now that our language, culture, social policies, welfare state and the ability to be fully a European state are at risk."

Junts opposes abstention in the election

The Junts number one candidate for the Congress of Deputies appealed against abstention in the run-up to the general elections. Nogueras emphasized the importance of voting and asserted the merits of the Junts candidacy as "the list that says enough is enough, we will not accept one more humiliation or one more lie from the state". "Catalonia's project is seriously at risk and we've had enough of putting up with abuses and manipulation by the state," warned Nogueras, who added: "The dream of Spanish nationalism was to carry out an electoral reform so that neither Basques nor Catalans would have any ability to affect the state and, as far as they can, they will do that. To the people who advocate not voting in July, what it will bring about is the goal that Spanish nationalism wants, shooting ourselves in the head."

"We won't accept any more humiliation, not one more lie. Now it's up to us. Our reason for being is to take Catalonia where it deserves to be," said Nogueras when presenting her candidacy, and she added: "This is not about the right or the left, it is about the Kingdom of Spain or Catalonia, about regression or progress."

Rejects a deal with the PSC in Barcelona provincial authority

The head of the Junts list refuses to repeat the agreement with the Catalan Socialists (PSC) to jointly govern the Barcelona's provincial Diputació. Likewise, she opts for a "reset" and to join with ERC in governing all the municipalities where Junts and the Republicans have a majority.

Asked if these agreements with ERC could cause Junts to be left without a deal to co-govern the Barcelona provincial council, Nogueras replied that she does not think so: "I don't think it would be at the cost of the Diputació", adding that the Tot per Terrassa local coalition would help the party's support in the provincial body rise higher.
