The general secretary of the Catalan Republican Left (ERC), Marta Rovira, has announced to the party leadership this Wednesday that she will not seek re-election in the next National Congress of the pro-independence party, and has argued in favour of making way for "new leadership". "As a grassroots member, and out of coherence, I have informed my colleagues in the national leadership that I will not present myself as general secretary at the next National Congress," she said in a social media post. The same meeting this Wednesday evening also concluded with the announcement that party president Oriol Junqueras will step down from the position after the European elections on June 9th, to begin a period of "active listening reflection" before deciding on his future. ERC will hold an extraordinary National Congress on November 30th.
