Ernest Maragall, candidate of the Catalan Republican Left (ERC) to the mayoralty of Barcelona, and Ada Colau, current mayor and BComú candidate for re-election, could tie in the number of city councillors they win on the Catalan capital's municipal government, according to a survey by Gesop released at 8pm on election night.
Both parties are predicted to win 10-11 councillors on the 41-seat council. The survey, prepared for El Periódico and BTV, envisages that the Catalan Socialists (PSC) will be third with 7-8 councillors. JxCat (Together for Catalonia) and Cs (the Manuel Valls campaign under the Ciudadanos platform) will both win 5-6, while the CUP party and Primarias are close to the threshold for entry to the council and could win 0-2 seats. The PP is not expected to win a seat on the Barcelona council, according to the survey.
