The Spanish minister for Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, has travelled to Barcelona this Wednesday. His first stop was the City Hall, where he signed the book of condolences in homage to the victims of the Barcelona and Cambrls attacks, a total of 15 dead and more than 120 injured. After leaving the City Hall, he headed to the Rambla, where he received the first criticisms.
In view of the media interest his presence created, he walked accompanied by several cameras and journalists. Some members of the public recriminated him for coming to Barcelona "just to have his photo taken". He was faced by this same criticism when adding his own floral tribute to the large collection at the Miró mosaic. He was accompanied by the Spanish Health minister, Dolors Montserrat, the Spanish government's representative to Catalonia, Enric Millo and the former president of the Catalan branch of the PP (People's Party), Alícia Sánchez-Camacho.
The minister's schedule ends at 4pm with a visit to an exhibition about the 18th century Spanish monarch Carlos III. The exhibition, called Carlos of Bourbon: from Barcelona to Naples is running at the Archive of the Crown of Aragon in Barcelona.
