Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has denied that Canada's travel prohibition on exiled Catalan president Carles Puigdemont was a result of any intervention by his government.
Trudeau told media in Ottawa that there was no political involvement in the decision to refuse Puigdemont permission to visit the country and that the decision was taken independently by immigration ministry officials. Trudeau added that he will not intervene to change the decision.
On Monday, the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal, leading francophone cultural group and pro-independence organization in Quebec, reported that the Canadian authorities had made a last-minute cancellation of the permission they had already granted to Puigdemont to travel to the country, for a visit that had been planned to take place in early April.
