At 8pm, the mood at the Brussels election night headquarters of the Junts candidature headed by Carles Puigdemont, was one of laughter and optimism. The initial surveys suggested that Puigdemont would win a seat in the EU parliament, with the possibility of up to three for his group.
The exiled Catalan president is following the election results at the headquarters of the Press Club Brussels Europe, along with fellow candidates Toni Comín and Clara Ponsatí, as well as political and legal allies Gonzalo Boye, Laura Borràs and Bea Talegón, among others.
