Turnout disappointing with two hours to go. A modest 45.8% of the total number of Catalans eligible in the election to the Parliament of Catalonia this Sunday had cast their ballots by 6pm, two hours before the polls close at eight. In the 2021 election, at the same time the turnout was 45.61%, so the figure has remained static. That election was affected by the Covid pandemic, to the extent that the government had wanted to delay it but was refused judicial permission to do so, and the 2021 voting level was significantly down on the previous Catalan elections of 2017 and 2015.

Of the four macro-constituencies into which Catalonia is divided, voter turnout in Barcelona and Tarragona in the second progress report at 6pm had risen slightly compared to the previous election. In Barcelona, it was 46.27% at 6pm, 0.46 points more than in 2021, with 1,837,248 people having voted. In Tarragona, it was 44.05%, 1.28 points more, and a total of 254,085 voters. On the other hand, in Girona the turnout at 6pm was 45.82% -1.17 points less - and a total of 241,275 voters; and in Lleida, the turnout was 43.31% at 6pm - 2.64 points less than in the 2021 vote at the same time - with 128,941 voters having visited the polls.
