There are new additions of famous faces to the international manifesto, 'Let Catalans Vote', that already includes over 50 signatures in favour of the Catalans being able to decide their future in a referendum.
After new international personalities such as Viggo Mortensen and the Irish politician Gerry Adams joined in May, as well as new Nobel laureates such as Rigoberta Menchú (there are already six who subscribe to the manifesto) — well-known figures such as the Japanese artist, singer and peace activist, Yoko Ono Lennon, and the ex-footballer, Hristo Stòitxkov, have now also been added to the list.
But these are not the only ones. Outstanding personalities of the international political world, such as the former Secretary of State of the German Ministry of Finance and former leader of the UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), Heiner Flassbeck, the father of the Slovenian Constitution, Peter Jambreck, and the Syriza ex-deputy and professor of economics at the University of London, Costas Lapavitsas.
In addition to them, the English singer-songwriter, rock composer and human rights activist, Peter Gabriel, Nobel prize winner Pau Jody Williams, the ex-footballer and French actor, Eric Cantona, and the singer-songwriter of the 'Nueva Trova Cubana', Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez.
The manifesto notes that "the best way of resolve legitimate internal disputes is to use the tools of democracy" and calls on the Spanish government and its institutions to "work together with with their Catalan counterparts to allow the citizens of Catalonia to vote on their political future and then establish negotiations of good faith based on the outcome."
Apart from that, the manifesto also notes that "preventing Catalans from voting seems to contradict the principles that inspire the democratic societies."
